Archacki archives, ca. 1900-1990.

Materials collected by Polish-American journalist and artist Henry Archacki and his wife Janina Archacki concerning Polish and Polish-American history and culture, including letters, photographs, clippings, historical writings and notes, newsletters, directories, certificates, audio and video tapes, and ephemera. Included are materials on many Polish-American organizations such as the Polish National Alliance, the Polish National Union of America, and the Polish Falcons of America; information on Polish language newspapers published in the United States; research material on Polish-American participation in the American Civil War; and original drawings, texts, and research notes for a cartoon newspaper column on Polish history and culture written and illustrated by Henry Archacki. There is also correspondence with and material about many Polish-American writers, painters, sculptors, photographers, linguists, historians, and military officers.

Henry Archacki (b. 1907), a Polish American artist, journalist, publisher, and illustrator, was born in Warsaw, Poland, and came to the United States as an infant. His family settled in Chicago, Ill., where Archacki showed an early aptitude for art and journalism. He worked as sports reporter for Dziennik Związkowy (Chicago), and in 1930 went to New York as head artist for the Brooklyn branch of the paper.
